Masai Mara and Lakes Trek
Itinerary / Highlights
DAY 1, Great Rift Valley, Lake BaringoWe journey to the floor of the ancient Great Rift Valley and make our way to freshwater Lake Baringo. With its abundance of birdlife and aquatic life we'll hopefully see hippos and crocodiles, kingfishers, storks and pelicans amongst others. In this picturesque setting, surrounded by mountains and dormant volcanoes you have the opportunity to enjoy nature walks and boat trips around the many islands in the lake. In the late afternoon we return to our comfortable camp for dinner and our first African sunset.
DAY 2, Lake Nakuru National Park
Leaving camp, we head south to Lake Nakuru National Park, whose giant soda lake is home to a variety of birdlife including huge swathes of flamingos that feed around the lake shore. In the afternoon we take game drives in the park to enjoy sightings on the lake and its surrounds. If lucky, we may spot leopards, lions and even cheetahs as well as plenty of antelope, giraffes and playful monkeys and baboons.
DAYS 3 - 5, Masai Mara Game Reserve
We head to the famed Masai Mara for a game drive across the Mara's beautiful savannah and woodlands. Home to the ‘Big Five' and a wealth of other animals, birds and reptiles, sighting opportunities here are first-class. While here, we game drive in the early mornings and late afternoons to catch the wildlife at its most active and rest in our comfortable camp during the heat of the day. Between June and October we may be lucky enough to witness part of the spectacular wildebeest migration from the dry plains of the Serengeti in the south into Kenya. Throughout the year, there may also be the chance to take an optional balloon safari, to view the Mara and its inhabitants from the skies at sunrise.
DAY 6, Nairobi
We leave the Mara, cross the Great Rift Valley and pass colourful local towns, before ascending the valley escarpment and heading to the capital where our tour ends in the early afternoon.
